We live in a world where we share every moment in our lives with the people around us. These people have a role to play in our lives. They may be our relatives, co-workers to casual acquaintances or even simple interactions. The best (or to an extent, the worst part) is that all those people hold opinions about what we say or do. These opinions are generally called criticism. Some of us take it positively while most of us take it as negative. Taking criticism negatively can be one of the biggest hurdles in self improvement that we can have.

  • It is a reality check. One of the greatest and most favorite quotes in my note book says “We gauge ourselves by what we are capable of doing while others judge us by what we have already done”. This is the most important aspect of criticism. It is usually the reflection of how people perceive and judge your actions. It may feel harsh and humiliating but in real terms, it is a reality bites for us. Even when it is aimed at us with an intention of being negative, it can be taken as a check and positive feedback.

  • It helps us grow. Criticism is an ultimate tool for self development and that is why critics are helps in such high self esteem all over the world. Let it be an art critic or a literature reviewer or someone commenting on how you achieved your latest success with self projection, all have an important place in building personalities and profiles. It is mainly for one reason. An act can never be reviewed personally without a bias. A critic would point out the pros and cons of each action or creation. Lending a hearing ear to negative or positive criticism may be unpleasant but evaluating its depth can help us in adding up all those missing dimensions that a critic has pointed out. It builds our stature and mostly helps in eradicating those pitfalls that hamper our personal development.

  • It helps you connect with your audience. Criticism establishes a strong connection between the critic and the criticized. The communication helps in establishing the much needed rapport and spiritual between us and the people we interact with. Positive response to criticism with feedback establishes an impression that criticism is taken positively and indicated problems in our lives are taken care off. It helps us in raising our spiritual energy. On the other hand, it results in generating a critic friendly and responsible image that is definitely an asset on personal and collective level alike.

  • Criticism must help you to reinforce your perceptions and helps in identifying the grey shades / areas needing improvement and our spiritual enlightenment. On the other hand it delivers the healing punch when one falls victim to serious ailment of self praise. It also helps us in development forgiving attitude and tolerance towards other’s opinions.
